Mumbai Section 144: Due to claimed terror threats, the Mumbai Police Department implemented Section 144 in the city on Wednesday. The police have issued preventative orders under CrPC section 144 in all regions under their control from December 20, 2023, to January 18, 2024, according to the orders. The decision caused quite a commotion in the city. Students and parents are wary of schools and institutions.
According to the rulings, section 144 does not apply to schools and institutions in Mumbai. All educational institutions will operate according to the timetable and schedule that has been established.
Examining the situation and school schedule, one parent said, "Amid the ongoing terror threat updates and enforcement of section 144, I was wondering that schools are also closed but as I did not receive any message from the school, I sent my child as per the regular timings."
In addition to section 144, police have prohibited the use of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hand gliders, and hot air balloons over the city.

What is Section 144?
In 1973, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was enacted. The magistrate of any Indian state or union territory may issue an order forbidding the gathering of four or more people in a specific place under this law.
The closure of educational institutions, markets, and other public locations is subject to city government orders.
