Employment Pressure: In a heartbreaking incident highlighting the immense pressure of competitive exams on youth, a brilliant 23-year-old engineering graduate died by suicide in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The deceased has been identified as Anand Kumar. He was a very bright student but was deeply distressed over his inability to secure a government job. Despite his excellent academic record, the immense burden of expectations and repeated failures in recruitment exams drove him into deep depression, leading him to take this tragic step at his home.

Anand was living alone at his home in the Gujaini area when the incident took place, as his family had traveled to Bihar to finalize wedding preparations for his elder brother. The tragedy came to light when the family's domestic help arrived at the house and received no response despite repeatedly knocking on the door. Sensing something wrong, she immediately alerted the neighbors and local police, who arrived promptly at the spot, broke open the main entrance, and discovered his body.

A Highly Distinguished Academic Record

Anand Kumar was widely recognized as an exceptionally bright student throughout his academic journey. He completed his BTech in Electrical Engineering from PSIT College in 2024, achieving an extraordinary feat by securing the third rank across the entire state. Acknowledging his academic brilliance, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, personally honored him with a gold medal during a convocation ceremony on August 13, 2024. Although he was comfortably employed at a private firm, his ultimate goal was to transition to a stable public-sector role.

The Heartbreaking Suicide Note Left Behind

Upon entering the room, the Govind Nagar police team recovered a detailed, emotional suicide note written on a large sheet of paper. In the note, the young engineer poured out his immense psychological agony and deep sense of helplessness over his career progression. Addressing his parents, he wrote a painful final message explicitly expressing his despair over his employment journey:

"Father, please forgive me... I tried 50 times for a government job but failed. I am sorry."

Mounting Distress Over 50 Failed Recruitment Attempts

According to his father, Rajkumar, the young graduate was under severe psychological pressure for several months due to constant rejections in the highly competitive public sector space. Driven by a strong desire to secure a government placement, Anand had actively appeared for more than 50 different recruitment examinations across multiple sectors, including:

-Indian Railways recruitment cycles

-Staff Selection Commission (SSC) openings

-Multiple public sector banking tests

-Various state education department eligibility evaluations

Official Police Investigation and Ongoing Procedures

Inspector Ashok Kumar Dubey of the Govind Nagar Police Station confirmed that the department has initiated a formal investigation into the case. The police team has taken custody of the body and sent it to the local state facility for a mandatory post-mortem examination.

Law enforcement officials have also secured the handwritten suicide note as primary evidence. The tragic demise of such a promising and highly decorated young graduate has left the entire neighborhood and his college community in a profound state of shock.
