Tamil Nadu State-Level Essay Competitions: Tamil Nadu has announced state-level essay competitions for school and college students studying in Tamil Nadu as part of the celebrations marking 150 years of Vande Mataram. Inidia's National Song is a powerful symbol of India's unity, cultural pride, and spirit of sacrifice, which inspired the country's freedom struggle. It continues to be a potent source of the nation's collective energy. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the composition of the historic national song Vande Mataram by Shri Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the Lok Bhavan, Tamil Nadu, announces state-level essay competitions for school and university/college students across the state.
To honor this significant milestone, harness its potential energy for nation-building, and inspire thoughtful engagement among the younger generation, students from schools and colleges/universities are invited to participate in this competition, which aims to deepen their understanding of the song's emotional, historical, and contemporary significance.

State-Level Essay Competition Topics and Guidelines (Vande Mataram):

Tamil Nadu State-Level Essay Competitions: Submission Guidelines
The essays should ONLY be handwritten (not typed) in A4 size white sheets, written only on a single side. The length of the Essays should be: [The length requirement for the essay is missing in your request. Please specify the required word/page count.]
The competitions will be held separately for school and college/university students, in both Tamil and English. Students can submit their entries in either Tamil or English, and prizes will be awarded separately for both categories. The essay competition topics under various categories are:
a) For School students maximum of 10 (TEN) pages (with approximately 20 lines per page and a total of 1500 words to 2000 words).
b) For College students maximum of 15 (FIFTEEN) pages (with approximately 20 lines per page and a total of 2500 words to 3000 words).
The participants should send only the 'Hard Copy' of the handwritten essays (not typed) on or before 05.00 p.m., 31st January 2026 to the following address:
The Deputy Secretary to Governor (Universities), Governor's Secretariat, Lok Bhavan, Chennai - 600 022.
Entries received after the above date and time will not be considered.
Entries should be sent only by post or courier and not to be brought /handed over in person.
Students should clearly mention their Name, Residential address, Class/Discipline in which they are studying, Address of the Educational Institution and Contact mobile number in a separate paper that shall be prefixed to / attached to the 1st page of the essay. The entries should be accompanied by a Self-Declaration Certificate.
Tamil Nadu State-Level Essay Competitions: Prize Distribution
In each category, the student who gets first prize will be given a cash award of Rs 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand only), the student who gets the second prize will be given a cash award of Rs 30,000/- (Rupees Thirty Thousand only) and the student who gets the third prize will be given a cash award of Rs 25,000/- (Rupees Twenty-Five Thousand only). he prizes will be awarded at a program to be organized in Lok Bhavan, Chennai.
