The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a list of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) authorised to deliver online and open and distance learning (ODL) programs. Students can access a comprehensive catalog of universities providing diverse online courses via the official UGC-DEB web portal at deb.ugc.ac.in/Search/Course. Approximately 80 universities have been approved by the UGC to offer a variety of online distance learning programmes.
The University Grants Commission had earlier invited online applications from eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in accordance with Regulation 3(A) and Regulation 3(B)(b) of the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020, and its subsequent amendments, for the recognition of programs under the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.
The universities include Guntur University in Andhra Pradesh, Dibrugarh University in Assam, Panjab University in Chandigarh, and Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi. Candidates can check the full list of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) at deb.ugc.ac.in/Search/Course.
"Students should verify the recognition status of HEI for offering ODL and Online education for the session opted for admission on UGC DEB website, check the details on the HEIs’ website, take note of prohibited programmes and prohibition of franchising arrangement and ensure that all activities are being conducted within Territorial Jurisdiction for ODL Programmes," reads the notification.

The last date for admissions to Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programs for the February 2024 academic session will be March 31, 2024. Institutes are required to upload student admission details on the UGC-DEB web portal by April 15.
