Uttarakhand School Holiday Today (July 9): The Uttarakhand government has declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centres in Dehradun, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar on Thursday, July 9, following an Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts.

The IMD has forecast intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat. In view of the weather warning and to ensure the safety of students, district administrations have suspended classes in government, private and aided schools as well as Anganwadi centres.
Schools Closed In Dehradun
Dehradun District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan ordered the closure of all government, government-aided and private schools from Classes 1 to 12, along with all Anganwadi centres, on July 9. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect students from the risks posed by heavy rainfall, waterlogging and possible weather-related incidents.
Nainital Declares One-Day School Holiday
The Nainital district administration has also announced a one-day holiday for all government, semi-government and private schools, as well as Anganwadi centres. Officials said continuous rainfall has increased the risk of landslides, while rivers and streams may witness a rapid rise in water levels. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and follow all safety advisories.

Udham Singh Nagar Also Suspends Classes
In Udham Singh Nagar, the district administration has declared a holiday for all government, private, aided and recognised schools, along with Anganwadi centres, on July 9. Officials said the order has been issued solely to ensure student safety in view of the forecast of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
Landslide Damages Building In Tehri
Heavy rainfall has also triggered a landslide at Kaddukhal on National Highway 707A in Tehri district, damaging an old vacant building. Authorities said no casualties were reported as nearby restaurants, roadside kiosks and temporary worker shelters had already been evacuated as a precaution. Preliminary reports suggest excavation work for a hotel construction project may have contributed to the landslide.
Administration Issues Safety Advisory
Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather, stay away from rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas, and follow all instructions issued by the IMD and local administration. People have also been urged not to stay in weak or vulnerable structures during the ongoing monsoon season as heavy rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the state.
