Assembly Elections Date Announced: The Election Commission of India announced the dates for the Assembly elections in five states -- Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Mizoram -- on Monday, October 9. The voting will be held between November 7 and 30, and the counting of votes will take place on December 3, 2023.

Chhattisgarh will vote in two phases on November 7 and November 17. Mizoram will vote in single phase on November 7. Madhya Pradesh will go to polls on November 17 and Rajasthan on November 23. In Telangana, voting will be held on November 30.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar also shared details on the number of phases of the state Assembly polls and the schedule for filing and withdrawing nominations.

In the northeastern state of Mizoram, where the Mizo National Front is in power, the term of the assembly will end on December 17. In Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, the term of the state legislative assemblies will end on different dates in January 2024.

While Congress is in power in two states, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, the Central state of Madhya Pradesh is ruled by BJP. The K Chandrashekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) holds power in Telangana.
