Lok Sabha Elections 2024: In view of phase six of Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the Election Commission has issued a special statement urging voters of Delhi, Gurugram and Faridabad to keep aside their 'urban apathy' regarding elections and vote as much as possible. The EC has appealed to the youth to participate in the democratic process.
In a statement, the commission has said that in the fifth phase of voting, that was held on May 20, metro cities including Mumbai, Thane, Nashik and Lucknow witnessed a trend of urban apathy similar to that in 2019.
Voter turnout, as a result, was low in those cities. The third phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 too, saw a similar trend in voting, which was disappointing.
The apathy towards voting among the voters, especially youths in metro cities has become a great matter of concern. The EC appealed that the voters of Delhi, Gurugram and Faridabad should break this trend and come out to vote at large.
The Commission has also directed the District Magistrate of all the big cities to make efforts to increase voter turnout.
Free Rapido Rides For Voters In Delhi
To encourage a better voter turnout and enhance the voting experience for people who will come out to vote on May 25 in Delhi, the poll authorities in the national capital have collaborated with Rapido bike taxi to offer complimentary rides to voters. Voters will also receive special coupons from online food ordering platforms like Zomato and Swiggy, along with discounts at various restaurants upon presenting their voting ink.
Highlighting the special initiatives, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer, P Krishnamurthy, said that over one lakh polling personnel have been deployed for the conduct of polls on May 25 while several steps have been taken to protect people from the intense heat wave. 70 pink polling stations have been set across Delhi, one in each assembly constituency, which will be entirely operated by women polling staff.
