Panaji | Jagran Politics Desk: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained power in Goa's 40-member legislative assembly with a lead on 20 seats, as per the latest EC trends. Meanwhile, Congress remained stuck on 11 seats. This time, Goa witnessed a multi-cornered election as there were different parties including BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, and AAP competing in the election. BJP leaders are all set to meet Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai in order to take claim for government formation in the coastal state.
 
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), under theleadership of Dr Pramod Sawant, is seeking a third straight term in power while the opposition Congress is hoping to regain power in the coastal state where it had a fiasco in 2017 due to its slow decision making. In Goa, exit polls have predicted a hung assembly, forcing political parties to formulate their strategies keeping in mind different post-result scenarios.

Here are the highlights from day:

18:45 hours: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to retain power in Goa for the third consecutive term.

16:08 hours: "I don't know, it's a sensitive question," says BJP leader Vishwajit Rane on being asked if Pramod Sawant will continue as the CM.

13:48 hours: "We had thought that we will win but we have to accept the people's mandate. We have got 12 seats, BJP has got 18 seats. We will work strongly as the opposition. Congress will have to work hard to win the confidence of people," Congress leader Michael Lob

13:28 hours: BJP and Congress win 1 seat each and lead on 18 and 10 respectively as per official EC trends.
