Karnataka Assembly Election 2023: The election to the 224-member Legislative Assembly in Karnataka will be held on May 10 while the results for the high-stake polls will be declared on May 13. Heightened internal dissent has posed a serious challenge to parties including BJP as several politicians have switched sides after not getting a ticket to contest the polls.
BJP leader and former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa exuded confidence that his party will form the government with an absolute majority.
Jayanagar assembly constituency is located in the Bengaluru Urban district of Karnataka state. It is a part of the Bangalore South Parliamentary/Lok Sabha constituency. BJP won this seat in the 2013 Karnataka Assembly Elections. There are a total of 1,95,404 voters in the constituency that include general voters, NRI voters and service voters. Amongst the general voters 98,886 are male, 96,500 female and 15 others. In this constituency, Hindus account for 80.29% of the population, Muslims for 12.97%, and Christians for 5.25%. In 2018, the Jayanagar assembly constituency had a total of 204904 electors.
Jayanagar Assembly Election 2023:
Currently, Sowmya Reddy from INC is the sitting MLA of this seat. This time both BJP and Congress have fielded new candidates for the Jayanagar seat. INC has given the ticket to HR Gaviyappa, while CK Ramamurthy is the BJP candidate for this seat. Meanwhile, AAP has given the ticket to Mahalaxmi for this seat. Sowmya Reddy is the sitting MLA of the Jayanagar assembly constituency. It is a general category assembly seat.

Jayanagar Assembly Election 2018:
In 2018, Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy won this seat by 2,889 votes. Reddy's a daughter of state minister Ramalinga Reddy who's represented Jayanagar four times previously.
In 2013, BJP candidate B.N Vijayakumar defeated M.C. Venugopal of INC with a margin of 12,312 votes (12.88%) securing 46.03% of the total votes polled. In 2013 the seat witnessed a voter turnout of 55.93%. B.N Vijayakumar from BJP won this seat in the 2008 Assembly Elections with a margin of 22,594 votes (25.35%) registering 48.43% of the votes polled.
