AS THE suspense over the new Karnataka chief minister remains, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is likely to announce the name on Tuesday. Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC in-charge of Karnataka said the central observers of the Congress have submitted their report regarding the next chief ministerial choice to party president on Monday.

- Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar who was scheduled to visit Delhi on Monday late evening, cancelled the trip citing his health issues. As per the reports, he is likely to visit today.

- Shivakumar and former Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah, both frontrunners for the top post, were called by the central leadership in New Delhi for discussions over the next chief ministerial choice.

- While Shivakumar cancelled his trip, the 76-year-old Siddaramaiah landed in the national capital on Monday and held a meeting with the top leadership of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

- After meeting Siddaramaiah left Delhi's Lodhi Hotel late at night on May 15 and remained tight-lipped as he did not interact with the media persons.

- On asked about the new CM's face, Surjewala said that the party was not in a hurry and would take a decision after wider consultations with state leaders.

- "The observers have submitted the report to the Congress president. We will hold consultations with all senior state leaders, including Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, and after that, a decision will be taken by the Congress president," he told reporters outside Kharge's residence after the meeting.

- He also added that Congress President believes that the decision should be taken while keeping unity, unanimity, consensus and the welfare of Kannadigas in mind.

- Regarding the number of MLAs backing him and Siddaramaiah for the position of CM, Shivakumar on Monday claimed that his strength is 135, as under his presidency in the state the party had won the seats.
