Karnataka Assembly Election 2023: The stage is set for the highly anticipated elections to the 224-member Legislative Assembly in Karnataka. The voting will be held on May 10, 2023 and the results will be announced on May 13, 2023. Ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be eying yet another term in the upcoming legislative elections, while Indian National Congress (INC) too is in full swing to get majority seats this time.

Virajpet assembly constituency is one of the 224 constituencies in the state of Karnataka. The general category assembly seat is situated in Kodagu district and is one of the 8 assembly segments of Mysore Parliament Seat.

Virajpet Assembly Election 2023

This year, the key candidates for the Virajpet Assembly Election are Mansoor Khan from JD(S), AS Ponnanna from Congress and K. G. Bopaiah from BJP. Notably, K. G. Bopaiah won the seat last time in 2018 and got over 41.78% votes.

According to the 2019 Parliament election census, the total voters of Virajpet assembly stood at 2,19,573. The rural voters make up for 199,460 of the population as per the 2011 census, while 20,113 are urban voters.

The SC voters at Virajpet assembly are approximately 23,538, making up for 10.72% of the total population as per 2011 Census. ST voters are approximately 35,351, which is around 16.1%. The total number of polling booths at Virajpet assembly constituency as of 2019 Parliament Election are 274. In the last 6 major elections, BJP led the results 6 times. In the last three assembly elections, BJP secured the majority and won the seat.

Virajpet Assembly Election 2018

In 2018, the voter turnout was 72.64%. BJP won the Virajpet assembly seat with over 49.41% and got 77944 of the total votes. While Congress secured 40.94% and got 64591 votes, JD(S) got just 7.12% with 11224 votes.

K G Bopaiah won the seat in 2018, defeating Arun Machaiah C S of Congress and Sanketh Poovaiah M of JD(S).
