BJP leader Navneet Kaur Rana on Thursday stirred a row after making a controversial comment against the Owaisi brothers during her campaign in favour of the BJP’s Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat candidate Maadhavi Latha. Rana, while responding to Akbaruddin Owaisi’s 2013 provocative statement in their strong bastion, said “it would take us 15 seconds if the police were removed or made to stand down”.
“Akbaruddin, the younger brother of Hyderabad-based candidate Asaduddin Owaisi, had said remove the police for 15 minutes so that we can show them what we can do… I want to tell Akbaruddin that it might take you 15 minutes, but it will only take us 15 seconds,” she said.
She said the Owaisi brothers would not be able to figure out where they came from and where they would go if 15 seconds were given.
Rana called Latha a ‘lioness’, adding that the latter would stop Hyderabad from turning into Pakistan.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has also responded to Rana’s remark. "I tell Modi ji - give her 15 seconds. What will you do?... Give her 15 seconds, give her 1 hour. We too want to see if you have any humanity left in you. Who is scared? We are ready...If someone is making an open call for it, then so be it...PM is yours, RSS is yours, everything is yours. Do it. Who is stopping you...Tell us where we have to come, we will be there. Do it," he said.
Reacting to Rana’s statement, AIMIM leader Waris Pathan said she was making such statements as she had sensed her defeat in Amravati. “Navneet Rana has understood that she is going to lose the election in Amravati. Anand Raj Ambedkar, who has our party's support, is going to win. She is shocked, and that is why she is saying all this. Why there has been no action by the police or the Election Commission yet? They (BJP) are attempting polarisation and communal disharmony,” Pathan said.

The BJP has this time fielded Madhavi Latha against the four-time Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi. This is the first time that the BJP has fielded a female candidate from the Hyderabad constituency. It is worth noting that Owaisi has been elected as MP from Hyderabad since 2004.
