Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023: Rajasthan is set to go to the polls to elect representatives for its 200-seat Legislative Assembly. Polling for the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly election will be held in a single phase on November 25. The counting of votes will commence on December 3 and official results are expected to be declared by December 5, as per the Election Commission.
Jhotwara Assembly Election 2023
Jhotwara is one of the 200 Assembly constituencies of Rajasthan. It falls under the Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha constituency and is currently represented by Congress leader and Rajasthan minister Lalchand Kataria in the state legislature. The Congress party has fielded Abhishek Choudhary from Jhotwara for the upcoming Assembly election, while the BJP has chosen the serving MP of Jaipur Rural, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, as its candidate.
Jhotwara Assembly Election 2018
In the 2018 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election, Kataria dethroned BJP's Rajpal Singh Shekhawat to become Jhotwara's MLA. Shekhawat, who emerged as the runner-up that year, got 1,16,438 as against Kataria's 1,27,185 votes. The margin between them stood at 10,747 votes.
The Jhotwara Assembly constituency in 2018 recorded a voter turnout of 72.31%, failing to surpass the statewide average turnout of 74.72%. The polling day saw 2,59,666 people cast their votes on EVMs in Jhotwara. Out of all the eligible voters who participated in polling that year, 1,22,199 were women, while 1,37,467 were men.
In 2013, Jhotwara's electorate had chosen their then-incumbent MLA, BJP's Shekhawat, for a second straight term as their Legislative Assembly representative over Congress leader Dr Rekha Kataria, who emerged as the runner-up. Shekhawat defeated Rekha Kataria by a considerable margin of 19,602 votes. The difference in their tallies translated to 9.03% of the total valid votes polled.
