SHIMOGA Rural is one of the 224 Legislative Assembly constituencies of the poll-bound Karnataka and comes under the Central Karnataka region of the state.
Shimoga is known for its agricultural products including rice, coconut, maize, and chilli. The Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 for the 224 constituencies will be held on May 10, 2023, and the counting for the high-stake polls will be held on May 13, 2023.
Shimoga Rural Assembly Election 2023: Key Contests
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again fielded K B Ashok Naik from the seat who won the 2018 Assembly polls. Meanwhile, the Janata Dal (Secular) has once again given responsibility to Sharada Purya Naik who was the runner-up in the 2018 Assembly polls.
The Congress party has fielded Dr Sreenivas Kariyanna from the Shimoga Rural constituency.
Shimoga Rural Assembly Election 2018 Results
During the 2018 Karnataka Assembly election, K B Ashok Naik of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the elections by the margin of 3,777 votes against runner-up JD(S) leader Sharada Purya Naik.
KB Ashok Naik received 69,326 votes and the voting rate was 50 per cent. Sharada Purya Naik of the JD(S) was the runner-up with 65,549 votes.
