6 Indians In Kdramas And Kpop: The world of South Korean entertainment, particularly Kpop and Kdramas, has seen a surge in international talent in recent years, and Indian artists are no exception. From actors to singers, these individuals are breaking stereotypes and carving their own paths in the highly competitive industry including stars like Anupam Tripathi in Squid Game, Sriya Lenka joining girl band BLACKSWAN, Anushka Sen making her debut in Kdrama Asia and others. Let's take a closer look at six Indians who are making a mark in South Korea. 

1. Anupam Tripathi - The Rising Star of Kdramas & Movies:

Anupam Tripathi, born on November 2, 1988, is an Indian actor who has made a name for himself in South Korean television and cinema. He rose to fame as Ali Abdul in the Netflix hit series Squid Game (2021), which garnered worldwide attention. Besides Squid Game, Tripathi has also appeared in popular Kdramas like Descendants of the Sun (2016). In the Song Joong Ki starrer Kdrama, his cameo role as a character who selflessly helps Dr Kang Mo-yeon (played by Song Hye Kyo) during a crisis left a lasting impact on viewers. He also made a significant cameo in the 2023 Netflix drama 'King: The Land', starring Kpop idols 2PM’s Junho and Girls’ Generation’s Yoona.

2. Sriya Lenka - The Odisha-born Kpop Idol:

Sriya Lenka is a member of the Kpop girl group BLACKSWAN. Hailing from Odisha, India, Sriya's journey to stardom began when she was announced as one of the four finalists of DR Music's Global Audition in 2021. She officially debuted as a trainee in January 2022, and later that year, she became one of the newest members of BLACKSWAN.

Sriya's success showcases the global appeal of Kpop and the diverse backgrounds of its stars. The group's maknae, Sriya, is known for her dance moves and vocal prowess. Interestingly, the group's 2023 comeback single 'KARMA' was shot in various locations in her home state of Odisha, India. 

3. Aria - The Indian Sensation in Kpop:

Aria, born as Gauthami, is an Indian singer, rapper and former child actress who has made a name for herself in South Korea. Selected as a member of GBK Entertainment's MEP-C in 2022, Aria debuted as part of the Kpop girl group X:IN under Escrow Entertainment in April 2023. Known for her powerful vocals and charismatic stage presence, Aria has also debuted as a member of 'Triple Iz,' a sub-unit project that includes members from different nationalities.

4. Anushka Sen - The Indian Actor Making Waves in Korean Cinema:

Anushka Sen is a well-known Indian TV personality set to debut in South Korean cinema. After gaining recognition for her work in Indian TV shows and participating in Khatron Ke Khiladi, Sen is now shooting for the Korean film Asia. The film, which features people from across Asia, marks Sen's debut in Korean cinema. Her role in Asia highlights the increasing collaboration between Indian and South Korean entertainment industries. She was recently seen in the Amazon Prime Video series Dil Dosti Dilemma.

5. Lara Rajagopalan - The Voice of Brown Girls in Kpop:

Lara Rajagopalan, an Indian-American, is a member of HYBE's first global girl group KATSEYE. Born on November 3, 2005, in Los Angeles, Lara is known for her advocacy for brown girls worldwide. Fluent in English and Tamil, Lara's ethnic background adds to the diversity of KATSEYE. With her passion for music and fashion, Lara is a role model for many young girls around the world.

6. Abhishek Gupta - The Indian Television Personality in Korea: 

Abhishek Gupta, also known as Lucky, is an Indian television personality and actor who has made a name for himself in South Korea. Born on June 16, 1978, in New Delhi, Gupta entered South Korea in 1996 and became a well-known figure in the entertainment industry. He has appeared in various TV series, including Rustic Period and Pegasus Market. Gupta's work in promoting Korean culture and charity outreach has earned him the honorary citizenship of Seoul in 2022.
