Aamir Khan talked about how, after divorcing his first wife, Reena Dutta, he withdrew himself and refused to work for more than a year. The actor revealed that he started drinking soon after and would consume a single bottle in a single day.

Aamir Khan talked about his battle with depression and how, following his divorce, he turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism for his mental suffering in an interview with Instant Bollywood. "When Reena and I broke up first time, I was in mourning for almost 2-3 years. I wasn't working or listening to scripts. I was alone at home, and for almost 1.5 years, I drank a lot. You will be shocked to know that I was a teetotaler," he said.

Aamir Khan added, "After the split up, I didn't know what do. I couldn't sleep at night, and I started drinking. From someone who didn’t drink at all, I went to being someone who drank an entire bottle in a day. Main Devdas tha! (I was like Devdas), exactly Devdas. Someone who is trying to destroy themselves. I did that for 1.5 years. I was in a deep depression."

Aamir Khan talked about the importance of acceptance. "You and accept how important it was for you. Accept that what was once yours is not there now. Also accept how good it was for you when it was there, and how much you will miss it when it isn’t there anymore."

Aamir Dutta and Reena exchanged wedding vows in 1986. They have two children - Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. They were divorced in 2002 after fifteen years of marriage. He later married in Kiran Rao in 2005, which ended in divorce in 2021. 

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan recently revealed his new girlfriend Gauri Spratt. The couple disclosed that they had been dating for eighteen months at that time in their interactions with the media.
