Aamir Khan has finally responded to the widespread criticism of his 2014 movie PK, vehemently disputing allegations that it was anti-religious or encouraged love jihad. The actor addressed the resurgence of criticism almost 10 years after its premiere and defended its purpose. Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma and the late Sushant Singh Rajput starred in the Rajkumar Hirani-directed comedy, which caused controversy due to its portrayal of religious conflict and interfaith romance. Some critics accused the movie of encouraging 'love jihad,' a term frequently used by right-wing parties to accuse a covert objective of religious conversion, because of the subplot, which featured a Hindu woman in love with a Muslim man from Pakistan.
Aamir Khan stated in an open interview with India TV that the movie never made fun of any religion. He said, "They’re wrong. We’re not against any religion. We respect all religions and all religious people. The film just tells us to be cautious of those who exploit religion to fool the common man and extract money from them. You’ll find people like that in every religion."
Rejecting the narrative, he added, "When people from two religions, particularly Hindu and Muslim, fall in love and get married, that’s not always love jihad. This is just humanity. It’s above religion."

Aamir Khan continued by emphasizing that interfaith relationships are the rule rather than the exception, including within his own family. The actor quipped, "My sisters and daughter are married to Hindu men. Will you call that love jihad too?" For the unversed, his daughter Ira Khan recently married Nupur Shikhare, while his sister Farhat is married to Rajeev Dutta, and his brother Nikhat is married to Santosh Hegde.

Aamir Khan also addressed a different topic frequently brought up by trolls, the names of his children, with grace and clarity. "My kids have been named by my wives. There wasn’t any interference from my end. Husbands ki zyada chalti nahi hai," he shared. The Dangal actor disclosed that Azad was named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a well-known liberation fighter and India's first Education Minister, while Ira was named after Maneka Gandhi's Penguin Book of Hindu Names.
