The critically acclaimed movie Santosh is set to premiere in India on January 10, 2025. Directed by Sandhya Suri, this powerful drama has already made waves internationally, earning a spot as the United Kingdom’s official submission for the 97th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
The film, which captivated audiences at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, has been praised for its raw storytelling and compelling exploration of justice, gender dynamics and social inequality in rural India. The official synopsis reveals a gripping narrative: Santosh follows the journey of a young widow who takes on her late husband’s job as a police officer in a rural Indian village. Guided by a seasoned female inspector, she delves into the investigation of the brutal murder of a low-caste girl. This case not only exposes the harsh realities of systemic corruption but also forces Santosh to confront her own role within a flawed system.
