Akshay Kumar's blockbuster film 'Oh My God' with Paresh Rawal released in 2012 which eventually was a sleeper at the box office gained a cult status among the audience and proved to be a hit and is returning with a promising sequel.

The film featured the dynamic duo where Akshay Kumar portrayed the role of lord Krishna sharing his unique modern dynamics with Paresh Rawal who essayed the role of an atheist and spoke about faith and the undying of human spirit.

Now, after good 11 years, the film will be back with the second addition 'Oh My God 2' to entertain the audience with its light-hearted social comedy and has confirmed its theatrical release.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, Akshay Kumar will be essaying the role of a god in the second installment of the film, however, this time he will be taking the figure of Lord Shiva, with Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in the lead, and will be set against the backdrop of s*x education in India.

The film will be directed by Amit Rai with Ashwin Varde with Viacom 18 and Jio Studios as the producers of the film. Over the last few months, the film was in talks to take a digital route on Jio Cinemas, however now it is confirmed to have a theatrical release first with a digital turn.

The report stated, "Akshay Kumar along with his partners, Ashwin Varde, Viacom 18, and Jio Studios have decided on a theatrical release for Oh My God 2. Several discussions happened throughout making, but, Oh My God 2 was always announced as a theatrical venture."

It further stated, "The officials never commented on the OTT release, and even today, the film is being readied as a theatrical venture. The final edit is being locked and worked upon at this point. The theatrical release date of Oh My God 2 will be announced soon."

Earlier, Akshay Kumar had also spoken about the sequel of the film and termed it to be one of the best films of his acting career in the Bollywood world.

The report further mentioned, "Spinning a franchise of something as loved as Oh My God 2 is a responsibility and the team is well aware of all the audience expectations. The release plans are being worked on behind the scenes at this point, and the team is set to bring out their social comedy to the big screen this year."

Apart from 'Oh My God 2', Akshay Kumar also has two more theatrical releases lined up including 'Start Up' and 'The Great Indian Rescue.' He also has Ali Abbas Zafar's 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' with Tiger Shroff which also has Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chhillar, and Alaya F in key roles.
