Recently, Pooja disappointed Allu Arjun's fans after she mistakenly referred to Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo as a Tamil film while promoting her recent release Deva.

Pooja Hegde's statement about Allu Arjun starrer Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo being a Tamil film went viral on social media and sparked criticism from netizens. While promoting Deva, which also stars Shahid Kapoor, the actress made the comment during a chat with ANI. She said, “Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo is actually a Tamil film, it was not a pan-India film. But, people watched it in Hindi. So, if the work is good, it will reach people.”

Soon after the clip of Pooja’s interview surfaced online, Pushpa 2 actor's fans reacted and trolled the actress. One user wrote, "@hegdepooja kindly correct it #Alavaikunthapurramulo is a pure Telugu film.. After Hindi, you acted in Telugu industry movies, later into Tamil movies..." Another user commented, "#hegdepooja What a shame & disgusting! Even you were the main lead in #Alavaikunthapurramulo, a Telugu film, and you are calling it a Tamil film." Another fan expressed, "Though it was a slip of the tongue, such a grave mistake from a South Indian herself, especially regarding her own project!"

Another disappointed fan posted, "Why do the producers, directors, and heroes of the South encourage heroines who don’t know the language of the film they are acting in, spending crores of rupees on them? Savithri, Bhanumathi, Anjalidevi, Jamuna, Jayalalitha, Sridevi, Jayaprada, Jaya Sudha, Bhanupriya, Vijaya Shanthi, Saipallavi are all South Indian."
