The latest episode of Shark Tank India 4 saw a heated exchange between Anupam Mittal and Namita Thapar over a business pitch that aimed to reduce food wastage. Entrepreneurs Disha and Gaurav presented Gofig, a venture that sells surplus and near-expiry products that would otherwise be discarded.

Highlighting a major issue, they shared that food worth nearly Rs 50,000 crore goes to waste annually due to expiry dates. Their plan? To partner with brands and sell these products through alternative channels. They sought Rs 50 lakh for 2% equity, valuing their business at Rs 25 crore.

While the concept sparked interest, the discussion soon turned into a debate among the sharks. Anupam Mittal took an early dig at Gaurav’s family business before pulling Namita Thapar into the conversation, pointing out that she had also inherited her company from her father.

The tension escalated when Anupam questioned the couple’s financial motivations, asking, "Do you even need to work for money now?" Namita was quick to react, calling it an unfair question. However, Anupam defended himself, saying, "It’s a very relevant question, Namita. Let me finish. This is Shark Tank, it’s capitalism in its true form. If you’re uncomfortable with that, you shouldn’t be here."

Beyond the disagreement, the sharks had mixed opinions about Gofig’s business model. Anupam dismissed their B2B approach, suggesting they should instead open physical stores to attract value-seeking Indian customers. He ultimately declined to invest, stating, "I don’t fundamentally agree with your thesis, so I’m out."

Namita, despite her disapproval of Anupam’s stance, also chose not to invest. She, however, voiced her belief that businesses can make money while benefiting society. Aman Gupta, Ritesh Agarwal, and Peyush Bansal also opted out, agreeing that physical retail would be a more viable route.
