Anurag Kashyap has been under huge scrutiny for his casteist remark on the Brahmin community. After his most controversial statement, the filmmaker provoked rage among people. The controversy erupted amidst the Phule row, a social media user criticises his views on it and comments on his post. Anurag then reacted to the netizen’s comment and said, “Brahmin pe main mootoonga.. koi problem? (I will urinate on Brahmins… any problem?)” After receiving massive backlash, Anurag wrote a long post to apologise to the Brahmin community.

In his defence, Anurag stated that after being provoked, he forgot his decorum and spoke ill about the community. He further shared that everybody around him is disappointed by his remark. Anurag apologised to everybody for using inappropriate language.

Anurag wrote in Hindi on Instagram (translated in English), “In anger, I forgot my limits while replying to someone. And I spoke badly about the entire Brahmin community. That community whose many people have been in my life, are still there and contribute a lot. Today all of them are hurt by me. My family is hurt by me. Many intellectuals, whom I respect, are hurt by my anger and my way of speaking. By saying such a thing, I myself deviated from my own point of view. I sincerely apologize to this society to whom I did not want to say this, but wrote it in anger while responding to someone's cheap comment. I apologize to all my friends, my family and the society for my way of speaking and for the abusive language. Now I will work on it so that this does not happen again. I will work on my anger. And if I have to talk about the issue, I will use the right words. I hope you will forgive me.”
