Anurag Kashyap, recently impressed by John Abraham’s performance in his upcoming political thriller movie The Diplomat. The film is set to be released in theatres on March 14. The filmmaker earlier worked with John in the 2007 movie No Smoking. Anurag shared that he told John that he has done a great job as an actor. Anurag mentioned that the actor is not doing ‘unnecessary action or herogiri’ in The Diplomat. He also appreciated the director Shivam Nair and mentioned that he has made an engaging film.
In an interview with The Hindu, Anurag Kashyap said “I really liked The Diplomat. I told John, ‘after a long time I am seeing you being a very good actor’. He is not doing unnecessary action or herogiri in the film. He is solely playing a character. And Shivam Nair has made a really engaging film.”
He then recalled John’s words and said “I was congratulating John and he again said, yaar let’s do No Smoking 2.”
“John really means it but I want a subject. Over a period of time, a film achieves a cult following. So it becomes even more scary to meet people’s expectations. I want to go into that zone only if the subject matter is unique,” he added.
The Diplomat also stars Sadia Khateeb, Prapti Shukla, Jagjeet Sandhu, Ashwath Bhatt, Sharib Hashmi, Kumud Mishra, Ram Gopal Bajaj and Benjamin Gilani in key roles. It has been directed by Shivam Nair and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, John Abraham, Vipul D. Shah, Ashwin Varde, Rajesh Bahl, Samir Dixit, Jatish Varma and Rakesh Dang.
While sharing the trailers of The Diplomat, makers wrote on Instagram “Jab har raasta tha band, humaarey Bharat ne ummeed ko zinda rakha. A true story of courage. Watch it unfold on the big screen. #TheDiplomatTrailer out now! Releasing worldwide on 14th March.”
