Arshad Warsi is one of the versatile actors of Bollywood, who has done a wide range of movies like Munna Bhai MBBS, Golmaal and Jolly LLB to name a few. But his character as Circuit in the Munna Bhai franchise is still remembered even after years of the movie’s release. In a recent interview, Arshad claimed that many of his jokes in the movie were written by him. He would think about the dialogues on the spot and approach it to director Rajkumar Hirani.

In an interview with Mashable India, Arshad said, “I honestly don’t watch my work a lot. Sometimes if I see myself on television, and I think, ‘Not bad, this is funny.’ Most of the things I have done in Munna Bhai are improvised. It’s all extempore.”

The actor then recalled a scene in which he kidnaps a foreigner in his medical van. He shared how he came up with the jokes that made it to the final cut. Warsi added, “Initially, I was supposed to say, ‘Do you want to meet Madhuri Dixit? She is sitting in van. She looks super.’ Then they all said no, let’s not do this. Then we did all the poor hungry people. All extempore.”

“It simply comes to my mind when I am on set. It’s different to sit in an AC room and write a script than when you come and set and meet the people. The people tell you a whole different story. When you see a situation, the whole narration changes, which I did in this film. Let’s not make the script, patthar ki lakeer. When I had to shoot with this junior artist, he happened to be about six feet tall. So when I saw him, it just came to my mind and I said, ‘Yeh 6 foot ka hai, ise mai 2-2 feet ka teen bana dunga.’ One doesn’t think that ‘I am going to keep a tall guy and then I will say this. No, it doesn’t.”

“Raju is a good editor. It was so funny, I wish someone captured that. So what used to happen was I would come to him and tell him, ‘Raju aisa karein kya? Usko mai chilli chicken bulata hu’ and then Raju suddenly goes to his fast-forward mode and be like, ‘Haan, yeh acha lagega’. In his head, he does the editing of where he will place what scene. He has got a great sense of humour, he would grab it. Most of the assistants wouldn’t get it. They would not understand that ‘What’s so funny in this.’ It is only later when you watch it is when you find it funny,” he further added.

The first part of Munna Bhai MBBS was released in theatres in 2003. Which starred Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Gracy Singh, Sunil Dutt, Boman Irani and Jimmy Shergill in key roles. The second part of the franchise Lage Raho Munna Bhai was released in 2006. It featured Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Boman Irani, Vidya Balan and Jimmy Shergill in pivotal roles.
