Barbie Movie Review: Margot Robbie-Ryan Gosling’s Candy Coated Doll Comedy Is A Pink Fever Dream With An Ode To Womanhood

'Barbie' stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken respectively. The movie also stars Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey Nicola Coughlan, Dua Lipa, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans among others.

In an interview with The Guardian, Greta Gerwig revealed that she was terrified before directing 'Barbie'. “It’s not like a superhero, who already has a story. It felt very much like it was going to be an adaptation. Except what we were adapting is a doll – an icon of the 20th century,” she said.

She further told The Guardian, "It felt complicated enough, sticky enough, strange enough, that maybe there could be something interesting there to be discovered. I kind of had two thoughts: I love this and I can’t bear it if anyone else makes it. And they’ll never let us make this movie.”

'Barbie' is co-written by Greta Gerwig and her husband and filmmaker Noah Baumbach. It is co-producted by Mattel Films, Heyday Films and Robbie and her husband Tom Ackerley’s, LuckyChap Entertainment. Josey McNamara from LuckyChap and Ynon Kreiz from Mattel serve as executive producers.

The movie's album features Ava Max, Dominic Fike, Khalid, The Kid LAROI, Lizzo, Gayle, Ice Spice, Kali, rock band Haim, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj and PinkPantheress, Albanian pop star Dua Lipa. Korean pop group Fifty Fifty's song also features in the film and Columbian musician Karol G is also on the list. Ryan Gosling has also lent his voice to one of the songs of 'Barbie'.
