After an immense build-up, the long-awaited global release of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling's movie, 'Barbie,' finally graced theaters on July 21. In an intriguing face-off, the Greta Gerwig-directed film finds itself pitted against the highly anticipated 'Oppenheimer' by Christopher Nolan. Notably, 'Barbie' owes part of its success to a cleverly done joint promotion with 'Oppenheimer,' resulting in a considerable buzz among eager moviegoers. However, the movie is not without its challenges, as it also contends with the formidable competition of Tom Cruise's action-packed "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One," which stormed into Indian cinemas on July 12, 2023. The intense box office battle with these other magnum opus films appears to have taken a toll on the overall business prospects of 'Barbie.'
The Indian box office witnessed a sluggish beginning for the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling film, collecting a modest Rs 5 crore. In contrast, Cillian Murphy's 'Oppenheimer' achieved a remarkable feat, amassing a whopping Rs 14.5 crore. On the second day, "Oppenheimer" continued to maintain its lead over 'Barbie.'
