Bastar Controversy: Bastar: The Naxal Story is all set to hit the theatres on March 15, 2024. Ahead of its theatrical release, the movie was screened for JNU students. A pre-screening of ‘Bastar: The Naxal Story’ was scheduled to take place at the Convention Centre auditorium. However, the event encountered numerous interruptions due to power outages allegedly caused by opposition groups, according to claims made by students.
At present, there's a set of rules known as a partial code of conduct being followed at JNU. This code states that no events can take place without getting permission first from the Election Committee. The Election Committee at the university has stated that the screening of the film went against this partial code of conduct, which is currently being enforced on campus during the ongoing JNUSU election process.
“The Committee clarifies that NO INFORMATION was given AND/ OR NO PERMISSION was obtained for the event,” said Shailendra Kumar, Election Committee chairperson, in a statement. “Furthermore, the EC had informed the competent authority prior to the event that this event is in violation of the partial code of conduct for the JNUSU elections 2023-24,” he added.
Shailendra Kumar, Election Committee chairperson, said in a statement, “The Committee clarifies that NO INFORMATION was given AND/ OR NO PERMISSION was obtained for the event. Furthermore, the EC had informed the competent authority prior to the event that this event is in violation of the partial code of conduct for the JNUSU elections 2023-24.”
He further noted, “The Election Committee appeals to the JNU community to adhere to the Partial Code of Conduct and obtain prior permission from the Election Committee for conducting any event in the university till the conclusion of the election process.”
One student, who prefers to remain anonymous, expressed, "The screening event isn't related to the ABVP or the election. It's organised by RKM, and some students have assisted them on a personal basis."
