BTS Jungkook's Underrated Songs: As BTS golden maknae, Jungkook, celebrates his 27th birthday on September 1, fans around the world are once again reminded of his multifaceted talents. Known for his impeccable dance moves, rap skills and his ability to excel in almost anything he tries, Jungkook has undoubtedly earned his nickname. However, it is his role as the main vocalist of BTS that truly sets him apart in the Kpop industry. The authenticity in his voice resonates deeply with ARMYs, whether he’s delivering the raw emotions of BTS' Born Singer or serenading listeners with his English hit Seven.
As we anticipate his birthday, let’s take a closer look at some of his lesser-known tracks that showcase why Jungkook is hailed as the vocal king of Kpop.
1. Decalcomania
On his 22nd birthday, Jungkook treated fans to a special surprise—a demo version of an original song he wrote, which he uploaded on Twitter. Though the track was unnamed, fans quickly dubbed it “Decalcomania” after a phrase from the lyrics. The song’s title references an 18th-century art technique where paint is applied to one surface and then transferred to another, often creating a mirrored pattern. The lyrics, "When I see you smile in the screen / You're good at everything / You're just perfect / Feels like I've never been you," reflect a yearning for recognition from a loved one.
In August 2021, during a fan meeting, Jungkook revealed that he had deleted the track’s files but reassured fans that he could record it again if needed, keeping the hope alive for a full version of this emotional piece.

2. Young Love
Young Love is a gem tucked away in BTS' anthology album, Proof, released on June 10, 2022. The Korean title of the song 'Aemaehan Sai' roughly translates to 'an ambiguous or uncertain relationship' and talks about the confusion and chaos that ensues with the feeling of falling in love.
Sung by RM and Jungkook, the track was recorded earlier in their career but was only released in 2022, near the group's 9th debut anniversary. The song beautifully captures the innocence and excitement of a first love, with lyrics like, "This must be what love is, I must be somewhat a fool / I grin only when I look at you."
During a V live, Jungkook sang this song for ARMYs, his smile reflecting the nostalgia of BTS' early days and the memories tied to this heartfelt track.
3. Begin
Jungkook’s first solo venture as a member of BTS came with Begin, the third track on the album Wings. Written by BTS’ leader, RM, this song narrates Jungkook’s journey from his hometown to Seoul, where he met the other members of BTS. “Love you, my brother, I’ve got brothers. I discovered emotions, I became me,” he sings, his vocals blending seamlessly with the electronic melody. Begin is not just a song; it’s a testament to Jungkook’s growth and the deep bond he shares with his bandmates.

4. Jungkook’s Cover of Harry Styles’ Falling
In October 2021, Jungkook delivered a soul-stirring cover of Harry Styles’ melancholic track Falling released in 2019. His rendition stays true to the original while adding his unique vocal colour. Jungkook’s ability to hit the high notes with clarity and emotion makes this cover a must-listen for ARMYs, particularly those discovering it for the first time. The lyrics, “I’m falling again, I’m falling again, I’m falling,” take on a new depth with Jungkook’s tender yet powerful voice, showcasing his versatility as a vocalist.
5. Yes or No
An underrated gem from Jungkook's debut solo album, GOLDEN, released in 2023, Yes or No is a song that perfectly encapsulates the confusion and excitement of falling in love. The lyrics, "Are you thinking 'bout us? If so, then I think I know what's going on. And are we falling in love? Say yes or no," depict a lover’s plea for clarity in a relationship. Jungkook’s flawless English vocals add to the song’s charm, making it a standout track on the album.

Too Sad To Dance is a heart-wrenching track that delves into the pain of a broken heart. With lyrics like, "A broken heart and nobody, and that's why I'm too sad to dance," the song captures the raw emotions of loneliness and regret. The title itself is a stark contrast to Jungkook’s love for dancing, adding an extra layer of poignancy to the track. His vocal delivery in this song further cements his status as a vocal powerhouse, capable of conveying deep emotions through his music.
