Independence Day Week has always proven to be a success for Indian cinema as most movies released during this time have turned out to be blockbusters. Despite big clashes seen at the box office around August 15, cine-goers are willing to watch the different movies in theatres. In 2023, the audience is all set to see a clash between the three most-anticipated films - 'Jailer', 'Gadar 2' and 'OMG 2'.
Take a look at the list of Bollywood movies that revived the Indian box office during Independence Day week over the years by creating a storm with their earnings.
1. Ek Tha Tiger
According to the website Sacnilk, 'Ek Tha Tiger' was made on a budget of Rs 75 crore and became a blockbuster by collecting Rs 320 crore at the box office worldwide. The movie was released on August 15, 2012, and stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. It is streaming on Prime Video.
2. Dil Chahta Hai
Released on August 10, 2000, 'Dil Chahta Hai' was made on a budget of Rs 13 crore, according to Sacnilk and became a hit by collecting Rs 38.65 crore at the box office worldwide. Due to its focus on youth from urban cities, the movie performed well in metropolitan areas but failed in rural areas. It stars Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles with Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia in supporting roles.

3. Chak De! India
Released on August 10, 2007, 'Chak De! India' became a massive hit and also had a big social impact on changing the perception of how women are seen in national sports. According to the website Sacnilk, the movie was made on a budget of Rs 20 crore and collected over 100 crores at the box office worldwide. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan as Kabir Khan, former captain of the India men's national field hockey team.
4. Chennai Express
Released on August 8, 2013, 'Chennai Express' is another Independence Day blockbuster by Shah Rukh Khan. According to Sacnilk, the movie was made on a budget of Rs 115 crore and collected Rs 422 crore worldwide. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the movie also stars Deepika Padukone in the lead role.
5. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha
According to Sacnilk, 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' was just made on a budget of Rs 18 crore and collected over Rs 130 crore worldwide at the box office. Released on August 11, 2017, the movie stars Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles.
6. Mission Mangal
Released on August 15, 2019, 'Mission Mangal' became another Independence Day blockbuster by Akshay Kumar. According to Sacnilk, the movie collected Rs 290 crore worldwide and was made on a budget of Rs 40 crore. It also stars Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari and Sharman Joshi in lead roles.
