New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: Deepika Padukone’s film Chhapaak has been making headlines since she visited the Jawaharlal Nehru University in solidarity with students beaten by the masked mob on Sunday. With a section of social media users raising their voice against her, #BoycottChhapaak trended on Twitter on Wednesday. Though, another section of Twitter users stands in support of her for raising her voice against the brutality.
Deepika’s film Chhapaak is based on the story of real-life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, who has become a symbol of strength and inspiration for the women of our country. In the film, Deepika Padukone is playing the central character Malti, who is attacked in broad daylight on the streets of Delhi by a friend of the family, Bashir Khan aka Babbu and his aide.

The story revolves around how the life of a 19-year-old girl takes a turn when she is subjected to a horrific acid attack, and how she resolves to fight for justice and reclaim her life, by fighting the odds of life and claiming her right to live a proper life.
Though the film will hit the big screens tomorrow on January 10, its premier for the movie stars has become a hit. With stars showering praise for the film, Deepika’s acting was also hailed by the B-town celebs. Some Twitter users also hailed the film and shower praises for Deepika and Meghna Gulzar for highlighting the struggles of an acid attack survivor.

Actor Jacky Bhagnani after watching the film poured praises for Vikrant Massey, Deepika Padukone and director Meghna Gulzar and wrote, “#Chhapaak is not just a film, but a reality!
