Comedian mocks Deepika Padukone's depression: A recent episode of Samay Raina's show India's Got Latent sparked outrage among Deepika Padukone's fans after stand-up comedian Banti Banerjee made a joke about the actress's struggles with depression. Banerjee's set, which also featured judges Sid Warrier, Balraj Ghai, Raghu Ram, and Tanmay Bhat, took an insensitive turn when she quipped, "Deepika Padukone also became a mother recently, right? Great! Now she knows what depression really looks like."
The comedian further perpetuated harm by implying that Padukone's depression was triggered by a break-up rather than acknowledging the complexity of mental health. Banerjee's attempt at humour fell flat, particularly given her own admission of being a mother to a two-year-old.
Deepika's fans swiftly condemned the joke, expressing their outrage on social media. One user criticised the comedian, stating that making light of depression was unacceptable and that Banerjee's words were a stark reminder of the phrase "aurat hi aurat ki sabse badi dushman hoti hain" (a woman is often her own worst enemy).
The video received several reactions as one user wrote, “This is not funny at all. Shoutout to Deepika Padukone for getting help for her illness and turning her life around. I believe she also made people feel empowered to talk about mental illness. Even if sharing her story helped one person, that is still one person she helped.” A netizen commented, “The lengths some people go to for male validation are truly pathetic. And what does she mean by 'now she knows what real depression looks like now that she’s a mother'? Does she think postpartum depression is a joke?!”

Through various national and international platforms, Deepika has spoken openly about her experiences, encouraging others to share their stories without fear of criticism or judgement.
Recently, Deepika welcomed a baby girl and is currently taking a well-deserved break from her work commitments. She was last seen in Singham Again, which is currently running in theatres.
