In a significant update, the Punjab and Haryana High Court recently dismissed an FIR against contentious YouTuber Elvish Yadav, concerning alleged assault and threats against Sagar Thakur, also known as Maxtern. According to reports, Justice Anoop Chitkara remarked that the FIR indicated the violence stemmed from a "dispute over popularity and content creation," resulting in accusations against Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner and his associates. The case stemmed from a physical altercation between Elvish and Sagar in Gurugram earlier this year.
"The FIR portrays that the motive for violence was some dispute regarding popularity and content creation in which allegations were levelled against Elvish Yadav and his accomplices. To ensure that similar violent acts are not repeated in the future, that impressionable followers do not get influenced of the misdemeanour exhibited by the accused persons. and that the accused are not under the mistaken belief that such instances are taken lightly by the legal system, this Court proposes to quash the FIR in question but with the imposition of certain condition," Justice Anoop Chitkara noted.
The court emphasized that violence depicted in social media videos shapes societal attitudes and must be denounced. "Such actual use of violence in a society cannot be accepted and needs to be condemned. Media influencers with a considerable audience must be sensitized to the message they impart through their actions to their susceptible followers and exhibit socially responsible behaviour," it added.
Elvish Yadav-Sagar controversy
The controversy began when Maxtern posted a video accusing Elvish of assaulting him, a claim later supported by CCTV footage showing the latter and others beating Maxtern. He claimed, "He (Elvish) threatened to kill me. I was alone, while Elvish brought many people with him." Thakur further stated, "I will upload the full video in the morning. Everyone can see what happened. We also have recordings. I am fine except for the injury on my lip. He came with 8 people after fighting with us."
Subsequently, an FIR was filed against Elvish, and he was summoned by Gurugram Police for questioning. He countered by alleging that Maxtern had been threatening and abusing him for months. However, the situation took a surprising turn when Elvish posted a picture of the two YouTubers posing together, captioned "Bhaichara on top," seemingly ending the dispute.
