Justice Hema Committee Reports: The Malayalam film industry has witnessed a massive increase in popularity over the years with the audience praising its content and through-provoking storyline. However, the recent report by the Justice Hema Committee has sent shockwaves to the film industries in India as it revealed the case of sexual harassment and discrimination faced by women working in Malayalam movies.

From demanding sexual favours to not getting fair remuneration, take a look at the five major points claimed in the Justice Hema Committee.

1. Sexual Harassments Faced By Female Actors

The report revealed some horrendous details of the casting couch and sexual harassment faced by the women working in the film industry. It was pointed out that these harassments start from the beginning of the film's production as the female actors are made to believe that they should be willing to 'compromise' and make 'adjustments' to get work.

Many in the industry are made to believe that all women in the industry get into the industry or are retained only because they have sex with men in the industry,” the report stated.

It was also revealed that many women started sharing their experiences after the committee was made. Many men in the Malayalam industry also assume that if a woman is willing to perform intimate scenes on screen, then she will do so off-screen as well.

“On analysis of evidence placed before us, we are satisfied that women face sexual harassment even from very well-known people in the industry, who were named before the committee,” the report added.

2. Lack Of Basic Needs Like Toilets Or Changing Rooms

The report added that many film sets fail to provide basic amenities such as toilets and changing rooms. There is also a lack of safety and security for women in the industry and many women are not being provided accommodation and transportation.

3. Being Banned From Industry After Speaking Against Culprits

The report added that if a woman wants to take action against harassment then she fears being banned from the film industry.

4. Intoxicated Men Knocking At Door Of Female Actors

The report also claimed that many women experienced extremely unsafe environments on set. It was revealed that there have been incidents where intoxicated individuals knocked on female actors' doors but many victims hesitated to report these incidents to the police.

"In most of the hotels where they are staying, the doors are knocked by the men working in the cinema who would be mostly under intoxication. Many women have stated that knocking will not be polite or decent but, they repeatedly bang at the door, by force. On many occasions, they felt that the door would collapse and men would make an entry into the room by force," the report revealed.
