Song Joong Ki recently revealed a personal connection to Colombia at the press event for his upcoming film Bogota: City of the Lost. The actor, who plays the lead role in this South Korean crime thriller, shared how his wife, Katy Louise Saunders, has Colombian roots, making the film’s setting even more meaningful for him.
During the event in Seoul on December 19, 2024, Song Joong Ki was asked about the film's portrayal of Bogotá, Colombia, and whether he was concerned about the city being shown as a crime hub. In response, he surprised the audience by revealing that his mother-in-law is Colombian, and many of Katy's relatives live in Colombia. This connection, he said, gave him a deeper understanding of the country’s efforts to overcome its negative reputation.

Song Joong Ki reflected on his experiences in Colombia, describing it as a place full of passion, excitement, and delicious food. He expressed admiration for the Colombian people’s efforts to move beyond the stereotypes of crime and violence often associated with Bogotá.
The film Bogota: City of the Lost, directed by Kim Sung Je, follows the story of Guk Hee, a man who moves to Bogotá during the IMF crisis in search of a fresh start. As he gets involved with local characters, including a customs broker and a leader in the Korean community, he finds himself entangled in dangerous situations. Song Joong Ki stars alongside Kim Jong Soo, Lee Hee Joon and Kwon Hae Hyo, with the film set to hit theatres on December 31, 2024.
In addition to discussing his personal connection to Colombia, Song Joong Ki also spoke about his character’s look in the film. He was initially unsure about the costume design but found it fitting once they arrived in Colombia. He also mentioned how the expressive nature of the Spanish language influenced his performance, leading him to use more gestures.
