Poonam Pandey As Mandodari
Furthermore, actress Poonam Pandey has been cast as Mandodari, the wife of Ravana. Her selection sparked controversy, with some political and religious groups, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), raising objections to her role. Despite the criticism, the organisers have confirmed that Poonam will continue in the role. Arjun Kumar revealed that Pandey herself approached the committee for the opportunity. “An artist is an artist, we will not replace her. Everyone has a right to their opinion,” he said, defending the decision. Poonam Pandey, who has acted in both Hindi and Punjabi films, will share the stage with Arya Babbar, who reprises his role as Ravana. She arrived in Delhi on 26th September to prepare for the rehearsals scheduled for 29th and 30th September.
