Emergency New Release Date: After much delay due to several controversies, Kangana Ranaut’s biographical political drama got a new release date. The announcement came a month after it got its censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The movie was initially set to release in theatres in October or November of 2023 but then was then pushed to September 6, 2024. The makers had to go through many cuts before getting censorship of the movie. The film has been written, directed and co-produced by Kangana Ranaut. The political drama is based on the leadership of the first female Prime Minister Of India Indira Gandhi during the time period of Emergency.
While sharing the news of the release date, Kangana wrote on Instagram “17th January 2025 – The epic saga of the nation’s most powerful woman and the moment that altered India’s destiny. #Emergency – Unveils Only in cinemas!”

About Emergency
The story revolves around the time during 1975 when certain incidents took place during the tenure of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The movie stars Kangana Ranaut, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, Satish Kaushik, Shreyas Talpade, Anupam Kher, Bhumika Chawla and Adhir Bhat in key roles. In August this year, Kangana alleged that CBFC had denied the film’s certification due to external pressures. The Telangana government also banned the movie after Sikh community members and the SAD party raised their voices against the film. After passing many hurdles, the movie is scheduled to be released in theatres on January 17, 2025.
