Kangana Ranaut has been facing trouble for a long time for her upcoming movie Emergency. The film, which sets against the backdrop of the Emergency period, will focus on the political dynamics of India at that time. Not only that it will also showcase the pivotal role played by  India’s first female Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. A NDTV report suggests that a district court in Chandigarh has issued a notice to the actress regarding the movie. It also said that advocate Ravinder Singh Bassi (former president of the District Bar Association) filed an application against the actress claiming that she has tried to ‘tarnish the image of Sikhs’ in Emergency.

Bassi further claimed that the movie showcases several false allegations against the Sikh community and also urged the court to file a case against Kangana Ranaut. The makers of the movie were accused of twisting historical facts and misrepresenting the community by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Emergency has been directed by Kangana Ranaut herself. She will be also playing the role of Indira Gandhi. The film also stars Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, Satish Kaushik, Shreyas Talpade, Anupam Kher and Bhumika Chawla in key roles. After several delays, the movie was scheduled to release in theatres on September 6, 2024. However, it has been fighting legal battles in the court. The new release date is yet to be announced by the makers.

Earlier in an interview with News 18, Kangana “It's happened in the past too. There have been films like Padmaavat and Udta Punjab which were released quite smoothly. There were throats to chop off someone's nose, someone's neck, but the government protected them and they were released. But when it came to my film's release, no one… especially no one from the Congress party supported me, not even the film industry did. I definitely feel like I'm on my own. When I see these kind of feelings, this narrow-minded thinking, what kind of hope from people would I be left with?”

“The film industry is celebrating that my self-financed film didn't release. I am in the loneliest corner of the world,” the actress added.
