Imtiaz Ali recently quipped that if he had to make a sequel of Jab We Met, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, he would cast Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh. Jab We Met premiered in the United Kingdom a day prior to its global release on October 25, 2007. Since then, the film has received extensive praise from critics and emerged as one of the highest-earning Hindi movies of the year, amassing over Rs 50.9 crore in box office revenue.
Imtiaz Ali has repeatedly denied making a sequel to the film, but the ongoing excitement about it keeps the question coming back. In a conversation with India Today, Imtiaz said, “When the film was re-released in theatres last year, people really gave a lot of love. I was shooting in Punjab and I would hear that the audiences are dancing in cinema halls etc. For one minute I would have that feeling, I wish I was there. Now it’s been 16 years, and I feel that the film is not mine, it’s the audience’s film and they celebrate it. I look at ‘Jab We Met’ like an old friend rather than my own film now.”

He further added, “I wouldn’t want to make a sequel of ‘Jab We Met’ because I feel that it’s complete in itself. I haven’t thought of ever making a sequel to that film.” When asked who he would cast for the film’s sequel, Ali said, “Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra for sure.”
Diljit and Parineeti are currently gearing up for their upcoming highly-anticipated movie ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’. Imtiaz said in a conversation with News 18, “It was mandatory for me to cast actors who are singers as well. It was important for them to sing live. This film wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
“It’s not like Diljit didn’t train a lot like Parineeti did but he does live singing and is used to it. They both recorded the songs after singing them live. The reason behind this is that I’ve never had singers singing live during a shot. I thought that in case, the live singing doesn’t work out, we can always use the recorded version and use it as playback like we usually do,” Imtiaz further explained.
Recently, Netflix announced the release date of Chamkila. The official Instagram handle of the OTT giant read, "Sharing the video, Netflix wrote, "Maahaul bann jaata tha jab vo chedta tha saaz, kuch aisa hi tha Chamkila ka Andaaz (banjo emoji) (A crowd would gather when he sang, such was his style). @imtiazaliofficial ’s AmarSinghChamkila arriving on 12 April, only on Netflix!" Chamkila marks Diljit and director Imtiaz Ali's first on-screen collaboration."
