Indian Police Force Review: Rohit Shetty makes his debut in the realm of web series with 'Indian Police Force,' bringing his signature Cop Universe elements to the digital platform. The series stands as filmmaker's tribute to the unwavering spirit of the forces dedicated to protecting our nation, prioritising the well-being of the country over personal considerations. Upon watching the series, it becomes evident that it doesn't conform to the typical Rohit Shetty formula. While elements like exploding cars and dramatic slow-motion sequences are present, they are overpowered by attitude, style, showmanship, gunfights, and star power.
The seven-part series encompasses the trademark attributes of Rohit Shetty's work. The story begins with a compelling scene depicting multiple explosions in the city, leading to widespread devastation and chaos that affects countless lives. Remaining true to Shetty's cinematic style, this police action drama unfolds through an intense cat-and-mouse chase, where police officers Vikram Bakshi played by Vivek Oberoi and Kabir aka Sidharth Malhotra relentlessly pursue the culprits responsible for the attacks. Next, they collaborate with ATS Chief Tara Shetty, portrayed by Shilpa Shetty in their mission to apprehend a man linked to the Gujarat blasts, leading them to terrorist Haider (Mayyank Taandon), delivering a poised performance in the role. Even amid widespread destruction, all the characters arrive at the scene, accompanied by a swelling background score that swiftly establishes their heroism. Nevertheless, the storyline follows a familiar theme of revenge and explores radicalisatio, looking predictable.
In 'Indian Police Force', for the first time, a major character confronts mortality, something never happened before. In the world crafted by Rohit Shetty, the narrative unfolds in a way where cops face the risk of losing their lives on the field, officers experience consequences for breaking protocols, and capturing the most wanted criminals.
Direction and Cast
Sidharth Malhotra embodies the persona of a dedicated police officer and the composed demeanour he carries off-screen contributes significantly to his portrayal of Kabir Malik. Whether in his impactful scene following the death of a senior officer or when confronting terrorists, Sidharth convincingly embodies the role of a police officer, showcasing excellent camera presence. Vivek Oberoi appears commendable and brings his own swag to the series. While Shilpa Shetty's initial expression of anger may come across as intense and 'khaadus' police office, she skillfully hones her performance as the series progresses.
The antagonist, Mayyank Taandon as Zarrar is outstanding. His romantic scenes and terror fights, both earn him praises. He impressively portrays the multifaceted nature of his character. The supporting cast, including Shweta Tiwari as Shruti, Nikitin Dheer as Rana, Rituraj Singh as Rafeeq, and Mukesh Rishi, who is soothing to watch after a long-long time, as Officer Jaideep Bansal, deliver flawless performances. In the end, Sharad Kelkar makes a strong entry into the series, leaving a lasting impact. The impeccable casting stands out as a notable strength of 'Indian Police Force.'
While the action scenes are swiftly shot, providing some thrill in the chases across the streets of Goa, the intensity is accompanied by a host of flaws. Rest, the series showcases well-captured backdrop of Delhi's historical monuments like Humayun's Tomb, India Gate, and Purana Quila, enhancing its visual allure and bringing realism to the series. Amar Mohile's background score complements the narrative.
Final Verdict
Even though the storyline may be predictable, 'Indian Police Force' comes highly recommended for its innovative execution in delivering an enthralling action series within the digital realm. The episodic format, with each episode spanning half an hour, enhances its appeal, making it a captivating choice for fans of the Cop Universe and individuals seeking compelling content in the web series domain.
