Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC) has been grabbing eyeballs, and this time for the lead actress of the show, who will play the role of Dayaben. Disha Vakani, who played the character of Dayaben for almost a decade, has been missing from the show for years now. The actress took maternity leave in 2017 but has not returned to the show. As reported by News18, the producer of TMKOC, Asit Modi, confirmed that she won’t be returning to the show. Now, the same publication has reported that the hunt for Dayaben is almost over. 

A source told News18 that Asit Modi had been conducting auditions for Dayaben and had liked someone. An actress has been shortlisted for the role of Daya, but her identity has not been revealed yet. The team is currently holding mock shoots with the new actress. The source told the publication, “Yes, it is right. Asit ji had been looking for a new Dayaben, and recently, one of the auditions impressed him a lot. Mock shoots with the actress are underway. It’s been around a week that she has been here, shooting with us.” 

Earlier, Asit Modi told the publication about Disha Vakani’s comeback to TMKOC, “I am still trying. I believe Disha Vakani can’t be back. She has two children. She is like my sister. Even today, we have a very close relationship with her family. My sister Disha Vakani has tied a Rakhi to me. Her father and brother are also family to me. You work together for 17 years, and it becomes your extended family.” 

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah now stars Dilip Joshi, Amit Bhatt, Mandar Chandwadkar, Munmun Dutta and Tanuj Mahashabde in key roles. The show premiered since 2008 on Sony Sab TV. The show is currently streaming on SonyLIV.
