Mukesh Chhabra, renowned casting director turned director, has recently clarified in a conversation with News18 that he will not be making a sequel to 'Dil Bechara,' the film that marked his directorial debut and starred the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. This clarification comes after Mukesh's earlier tweet in January, hinting at a sequel titled 'Dil Bechara 2,' which sparked both excitement and criticism among fans.
Explaining his decision, Mukesh stated, "I tweeted about it because I was genuinely planning on making 'Dil Bechara 2.' 'Dil Bechara' is a very special film for me because of so many emotions attached to it and, of course, Sushant. So, I realized that I shouldn’t touch that film." He emphasized that he doesn't want to exploit the film that starred Sushant and Sanjana Sanghi, adding, "I don’t want to cash in on that film ever now. I want to keep its beauty intact."
'Dil Bechara,' released in 2020, holds a significant place in Mukesh's heart for various reasons. It was his first collaboration with Sushant as an actor-director duo, and they had even discussed collaborating on several other projects during the filming of Dil Bechara.' Mukesh shared, "While we were making 'Dil Bechara,' there were conversations with Sushant on collaborating again soon. I’m someone who likes working with the same people I’ve worked with in the past."
Reflecting on his aspirations for a long and fruitful association with Sushant, Mukesh expressed regret over the actor's untimely demise, saying, "I also wanted to work with Sushant on three-four other films. It was my dream. But Sushant had other plans. And we can’t beat that [fate]."
When asked about his fondest memory with Sushant, Mukesh recalled the moments they shared over meals, particularly with his mother. He lamented their absence, stating, "I miss having breakfast with the two of them."
Mukesh's decision to not pursue a sequel to 'Dil Bechara' reflects his respect for the film's legacy and his desire to preserve its integrity. As he continues to navigate the film industry, he remains committed to honouring Sushant's memory through his work.
