Veteran screenwriter Javed Akhtar has always been vocal about his views on both his personal and professional life. Recently, in an interview, he discussed his bond with his son and actor Farhan Akhtar. The lyricist shared how he and Farhan schedule their meetings five days in advance to meet each other.

Javed Akhtar, who was recently in the US, spoke about his family during a conversation with Zaidi Channel. He said, "I have a very small family. I just have one son and one daughter, and it’s just me and Shabana (wife) who stay together. My daughter has a separate home, and my son has a separate home."

Javed recalled his childhood memories and shared how people used to find it odd that those living in the US or England had to call their relatives before visiting them. Now, he and his family live the same way.

“When we were little, we would say that in the US or England, even relatives call each other before they go over to someone’s house to meet. And other people would be shocked when they heard this. Now we are living that life and it feels perfectly fine," he continued.

The Sholay screenwriter also responded to questions about why he hadn’t brought Farhan along on his recent trip. “When I came here, some people asked me, ‘You didn’t get Farhan along with you? Is he jobless or what?’ I have to call him before seeing him, or he calls me to ask when we can meet. Usually, we fix an appointment that’s after 3-5 days. This is bound to happen. Such is life," Javed stated.

The veteran writer believes that being overly dominant over your children is unnatural. "Look at animals, they bring up their kids with so much love, they sometimes die for their kids, but as soon as the kid grows up, they leave them. It’s just us humans who like to dictate to their 40-year-old children about what is right and wrong. It’s extremely unnatural," he added.

Meanwhile, Farhan Akhtar celebrated his 51st birthday on January 9. On the work front, he will be seen donning the director's hat for the much-awaited movie Don 3, starring Ranveer Singh and Kiara Advani. The movie is slated to release this year. Apart from this, Farhan will also appear in a never-seen-before role as army officer Maj Shaitan Singh PVC in his upcoming film 120 Bahadur.
