Popular TV actor Juhi Parmar recently walked out of a theatre after watching Greta Gerwig’s recently released film Barbie, along with her 10-year-old daughter. In a social media post, she expressed her shock at the film's "inappropriate language and sexual connotations", stating that she had to leave the screening after only 10-15 minutes. Juhi stated that many other parents also left the movie hall for the same reason and accused the film's makers of misleading the audience.

Barbie is rated PG-13. PG-13 is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them.

Juhi Parmar Calls Barbie 'Inappropriate'

Juhi wrote a letter to Barbie, stating it was her mistake that she took her 10-year-old daughter to watch the movie. Sharing the same, she captioned her post, “A lot of my own audience is not going to be happy with what I share today, some of you may send me a lot of angst but I share this note as a concerned parent to Barbie! And for the other parents out there, don’t make the mistake I did and please do check before you take your child for the film, that choice is yours!”

Soon after her post went viral on social media, netizens took to the comments section and expressed displeasure with her opinion. An Instagram user wrote, “Instead of posting a review based on 10-15 minutes of the movie, maybe try watching the entire thing and then form an opinion? Also in your entire post you give no example of what was even inappropriate in the movie,” another one wrote, “The reason it's PG-13 is because Barbie is a functioning adult and the movie has themes deeper than a child could ever understand,” a netizen also commented, “ I guess you need to understand that this movie is not adult because of why you have mentioned but because it talks about deeper themes like existential crisis, mental health, and patriarchy,” another one wrote, “It's not the films job to parent your child. Read the ratings and take a call. Sensitive much? Barbie has always been sexualised, where have you been?” while others also dropped similar reactions.
