Mammootty is back on the big screen with his crime thriller film 'Kannur Squad' and it has been receiving appreciation from the audience for keeping them on the edge of the seat. Apart from Mammootty, the movie also stars Vijayaraghavan, Kishore, Rony David, Shabareesh Varma and Azees Nedumangad in pivotal roles. Even though 'Kannur Squad' was just released in theatres, there has been buzz about its OTT release due to the popularity of the film. As per reports, a leading OTT platform has bought the OTT rights of 'Kannur Squad'.
Kannur Squad OTT Release:
According to OTTplay, the OTT rights of 'Kannur Squad' have been bought by SonyLiv for a huge price. It has been reported that 'Kannur Squad' has been bought for the highest price it has paid for a Malayalam film so far.
'Kannur Squad' revolves around a police officer and his team trying to catch a criminal gang in India.
In an interview with Mathrubhumi, writer Rony David Raj revealed that Mammootty was not the original choice for 'Kannur Squad.
“Before we narrated the story to Mammukka, we had approached someone else. That time, we felt that the entire story had a documentary vibe to it and so, we decided to change the second half. Consequently, the movie’s scale also increased. Then we had to have a better performer who had to pull this off,” he said.
On the work front, Mammootty was last seen in 'Christopher' along with Vinay Rai, Sneha, Amala Paul, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Aditi Ravi. The movie revolves around ADGP Christopher Antony and his journey to becoming an encounter specialist who later becomes a vigilante to protect the civilians. He will next star in 'Kaathal - The Core' along with Jyotika in the lead role. The official release date of the film has not been announced yet.
