The highly anticipated film Kubera, directed by Sekhar Kammula and starring Nagarjuna Akkineni, Dhanush and Rashmika Mandanna, has encountered a significant hurdle. The film's title has been embroiled in a controversy, with another party claiming rights over it. This unexpected development has put the film's makers in a precarious situation, as they navigate the complexities of title infringement. The matter is currently being addressed through legal channels, with the parties involved working to resolve the issue.
At the center of the controversy is Telugu film producer Karimakonda Narender, who claims to have officially registered the title Kubera with the Telugu Film Producers Council in November 2023. According to Narender, he has not only secured the rights to the title but has also commenced work on his own project, with a substantial portion of the filming already completed.
Narender claims to have registered the title Kubera with the Telugu Film Producers Council in November 2023 and has already begun working on his own project. He has demanded that Sekhar Kammula either change the title of his film or provide compensation for the losses Narender has incurred. Furthermore, Narender has appealed to the Telugu Film Chamber to intervene and ensure that justice is served.
However, Sekhar Kammula and his team have yet to release an official statement on the matter. Despite the controversy, the production of Kubera has already been completed, with post-production work currently underway. The film, starring Nagarjuna, Dhanush and Rashmika Mandanna, explores themes of money and power, with Dhanush playing a homeless man from the Dharavi slums of Mumbai who rises to become a powerful mafia leader.
Nagarjuna will be seen as a complex character, adding depth to the narrative. Designed as a Pan-India spectacle, Kubera has been filmed in both Tamil and Telugu, with plans for a simultaneous release in Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.
Notably, Kubera marks Dhanush's first collaboration with Sekhar Kammula. The film's technical crew includes Niketh Bommi as the cinematographer, Devi Sri Prasad as the music composer, and Chaithanya Pingali as the co-writer.
