Legendary actor Delhi Ganesh died in Chennai on November 9 due to age-related ailments. He took his last breath at the age of 80 on November 9 at 11 pm. His son Mahadevan confirmed the news on social media about his father’s death. He wrote on his Instagram story “We deeply regret to inform that our father Mr. Delhi Ganesh has passed away on 9th November around 11 pm.” The news came as a shock to the industry people as well as to his fans.
The actor previously worked in the Indian Air Force for a decade, then he went on to work in more than 400 films. His body has been kept in Ramapuram, Chennai. His last rites will take place on November 11.
His notable work includes Middle Class Madhavan, Avvai Shanmugi, Ennul Aayiram, Samsaram Adhu Minsaram, Nayakan, Aparichit 2, Thenali, Narai Ezhuthum Suyasaritham and Nambiyaar to name a few.
The actor was last seen in Indian 2. The movie features Kamal Haasan, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Nedumudi Venu, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth and SJ Surya in key roles. The movie was released in theatres on July 12, 2024. Indian 2 is currently streaming on Netflix.
In a 2021 interview with The Indian Express, the actor said “Kamal gives a lot of space to actors, and he trusts you. That makes all the difference.”
Delhi Ganesh was an active member of the Dakshina Bharata Nataka Sabha, a theatre troupe. The veteran actor was awarded the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize in 1979 for his performance in Pasi, he was bestowed the Kalaimamani Award by the Tamil Nadu government in 1994.
