Made In Heaven Season 2 Review: The wicked pleasure to watch ‘Made In Heaven Season 2’ comes from a biting critique of five filmmakers Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Alankrita Shrivastava, Nitya Mehra, and Neeraj Gehwan. Set to unveil the hidden secrets of wealthy weddings set in urban India at large, the series is a perfect blend of showcasing a progressive society with concealing hidden regressiveness.

Plot

Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur revive their roles as Tara Khanna and Karan Mehra, the top-notch wedding planners of South Delhi. Hailing from middle-class backgrounds and trying to blend with the South Delhi accent, the duo is forced to adapt to a new status which is less comfortable for their wedding company.

Dealing with the issues of their own personal lives, the dynamic duo continues to plan lavish weddings which are shown coming out of a fairy tale. However, underneath all the glamor, there are prejudices blended with traditions and norms of society which can make a heaven into hell.

The storyline about all the leading characters working in the company continues alongside the different wedding subplots. As Tara deals with her divorce, and Karan gets into another money scandal, we see Jazz’s perception of love, changing throughout the season. The entry of Mr. and Mrs. Jauhari also makes us learn to deal with the demons of our lives in a bold manner.

Review

The second season deals with the issues that plague our society revolving around the concepts of toxic wealth, caste, and religion. After every episode, the show sneaks in important questions while one hops onto the joy ride of watching expensive jewelry and contemplating a glass of wine. But, questioning the glamorous wedding affair that is hollow within.

Addressing extra-marital affairs, divorce, bigamy, and situations of casual relationships, the show also focuses on subjects of teen s*x, domestic violence, unwed pregnancies, and racism. The Bollywood glamour with extravagant and aesthetic designer clothes and parties won’t overshadow the distress of a bride’s father to pay for the side hustles which still is a matter in the society.

What Works For The Series

‘Made In Heaven Season 2’ clarifies the fact that we live in a country obsessed with weddings and pressure our brides and grooms to deliver a perfect family portrait. But, the alluring and lavish ceremonies state the fact that sometimes heaven doesn’t ordain a companion for us. Some of us are meant to travel alone.

The dark narrative behind the happy fairy tale delivers the perfect moral to make peace with the society but on one’s own terms. The writers are aware of the show’s voice delivering emotional but truthful monologues with every new bride telling her story. Dealing with the society taboo with several noticeable trends which also welcomes change around us.

The show manages to calm the audience with the fact that individuals don’t stand with a moral compass. It tells the viewers that everyone is broken and to break the myth of ‘perfection.’ Therefore, when Tara, the hero of the show decides to con her ex-husband, she still is the hero for the right reason breaking the norms of the society and leaves the room in style.

What Does Not

Some of the subjects seem repetitive in the show as they’ve already been covered in the first season. The show deals with beautiful colors and gorgeous locations on the screen but none of them pops out because of the dull lighting throughout the show. The grayish haze in every frame hinders the viewers experience which can be the creators choice but will leave one annoyed.

The makers have forgotten the protagonist of the series i.e. Tara Khanna’s character. Sobhita Dhulipala as Tara does not develop much in the second season. Although, she makes the others pay but stunting her own growth which looks disappointing. There are times when the show tries to be powerful and realistic but loses the opportunity to make a strong impact, giving unfair solutions.

Performances

Sobhita Dhulipala’s growing graph in the industry promises the coming of an ‘A’ list actress. Mesmerizing the audience with her stunning screen presence and bold dialogues, the way she conducts herself in the series remains the backbone of the show.

On the other hand, Arjun Mathur plays the perfect side-kick fighting with his own issues which seems to be an external fight at bay. But, his internal struggles will surely mark a click with the audience.

The ensemble cast welcomes Neelam, Dia Mirza, Radhika Apte, Mrunal Thakur, Shibani Dandekar, Pulkit Samrat, Sanjay Kapoor, and Mona Singh with their spirited stories. Bringing out the hidden toxicity and trying to celebrate love with a commitment, every character will inspire the viewers to fight with the insecurities within. And will also let them assure that their is always a choice.

Final Verdict

Shifting from the wedding stories to the personal individual stuff of the lead actors, the makers have done a fair deal without getting into too much detail. The character arcs of every individual in the series is fantastically portrayed by the directors. By letting each actor tell about its intricate journey at a certain period and in glimpses, the show allows the audience to understand the process.

It is very well said that ‘Money always softens the blow’, the whole show plays on the tips of crazy rich brats playing with their wealth and hiding under its shield. On the other hand, their inner devil deals with the intrinsic issues which are faced by all. But, do not worry, ‘for the rest..there's whisky.’
