Malayalam Actor Siddique Lands In Trouble: A rape case has been filed against the actor after a female actor accused him of sexually assaulting her in 2016. The police have registered an FIR at the Museum police station, charging Siddique under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation). This case has been brought under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) because the alleged offense occurred in 2016. The case was filed after Siddique stepped down from his position as general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) in response to the allegations against him.
The actress reportedly claims that Siddique, a former general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), raped her in a Thiruvananthapuram hotel in 2016. In addition to the rape accusation, Siddique faces charges of unlawful detention and threats against the woman. These grave allegations could lead to his arrest and detention.
This marks the second FIR involving a prominent film personality, following a wave of sexual harassment allegations against directors and actors revealed in the Justice Hema Committee report. The initial case, filed under IPC Section 354 (which addresses assault or criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), involves director Ranjith. A female actor from West Bengal has lodged a complaint about an incident from 2009, alleging that Ranjith, after inviting her to audition for the film Paleri Manikyam, inappropriately touched her with sexual intent.
About Hema Committee Report
The release of the Hema Committee report has caused a significant upheaval in the Malayalam film industry. Actresses from Mollywood have strongly condemned the sexual misconduct perpetrated by influential figures within the industry. According to reports, 17 cases have been filed so far.
This controversy has led to the dissolution of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), with its executive committee and president Mohanlal resigning collectively. The Kerala Government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the report's findings, and it is expected that many prominent actors and filmmakers will be questioned.
