Nadaaniyan Movie Review: Ibrahim Ali Khan makes his debut in Nadaaniyan, which is produced by Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment. Khushi Kapoor also plays the lead in this contemporary romantic comedy, which is directed by Shauna Gautam.

Nadaaniyan, Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor's Netflix movie is a simple and easy watch for teen romance fans. With its soft, feel-good moments, it’s a light and enjoyable watch for those who are looking for a heartfelt teen romance.

Pia decides to hire Arjun as her rented boyfriend in exchange for Rs 25000 per week. An arrangement that begins as a transaction quickly evolves into more profound feelings. After learning of Arjun's humble upbringing, Pia's mother publicly humiliates him, sparking trouble. This prepares the audience for the drama that follows.

Nadaaniyan Movie Review

What Worked?

The veterans, Archana Puran Singh, Suniel Shetty, Dia Mirza, Mahima Chaudhry, and Jugal Hansraj, bring a touch of nostalgia to Nadaaniyan, reminding us of the charm they once brought to the big screen. While they aren’t here to deliver career-defining performances, their presence adds warmth and familiarity. They step in, deliver their lines with ease, and exit gracefully, carrying a quiet dignity that the film leans on. It’s less about making a mark and more about revisiting the past, and honestly, that’s enough.

What Didn't Work?

A person whose mother teaches at the most prestigious school in Delhi and whose father practices medicine in Noida is seen as poor or not wealthy enough to attend the same school as children from Delhi's elite. This is the world of the movie's producer Karan Johar's Dharmatic-verse.

The family business law cannot be passed down to their only heir, 'a girl.' Pia's mother (Mahima Chaudhry) endures silent suffering from taunts while waiting for her daughter to find a royal mate. The writers also tried to make a concerted effort to justify cheating, especially when Pia's father (Suniel Shetty) betrays his wife and daughter for another woman.

Performances

Nadaaniyan marks Ibrahim Ali Khan's debut, and he looks amazing. His facial expressions and delivery of words, particularly in dramatic and emotional passages, require improvement nevertheless. He has the talent, his father's beautiful looks, and a body to die for; all he needs is some decent craftsmanship to guide him.

Khushi Kapoor, while still not exceptional, is better than in her last film and even surprises in moments, particularly in a strong confrontation scene with her on-screen father, Suniel Shetty.

Khushi Kapoor

Suniel Shetty, Mahima Chaudhry, Dia Mirza and Jugal Hansraj play the primary couple's parents in Nadaaniyan, and they are quite honest in their portrayal. Archana Puran Singh, who plays the legendary character of Ms. Braganza in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), is also featured in the film, bringing back fond memories.

As Pia’s friends, Apoorva Mukhija and Aaliyah Qureishi bring a pleasant energy to the screen, while Neel Deewan, Agasthya Shah, and Dev Agasteya hold their own in their respective roles. However, the real standout is Meezaan Jafri’s cameo, his presence adds a spark that the film could have used more of.

Final Verdict

Nadaaniyan is a simple teen romance that relies on its charm and easygoing vibe. The love story follows a predictable path, romance, heartbreak, and a solid soundtrack to tie it all together. Though the film doesn’t break any new ground, its softness and occasional emotional depth make it a passable watch for fans of the genre. For those seeking something more meaningful, the film might feel underwhelming, as it neither challenges its audience nor leaves a lasting impact.
