Actor Nana Patekar recently reminisced about his collaboration with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the film 'Khamoshi: The Musical.' He recalled a particular altercation they had over a scene, which created tension on set. Patekar mentioned that unresolved anger issues may have contributed to their strained working relationship, speculating on why they haven't collaborated again. Reports of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's reputed short temper have also been a topic of discussion in the industry.

In the interview to The Lallantop, Patekar broke silence over fallout between him and Bhansali and said, "It wasn’t just one argument, there were many. But Sanjay is a good director. In the scene, my wife has a heart attack. I’m playing cards with my back to her. She’s behind me. We are both deaf, of course. How would I know what’s happening behind my back? Sanjay wanted me to turn. He said that there is an unspoken bond that a couple shares, but this wasn’t a strong enough reason for me to understand the scene. I said I needed a solid reason."

"Perhaps I stepped out of line. But I feel relationships shouldn’t be limited to work. We should remain friends even after our work together is over. That’s how I would prefer it to be. Films come and go, but our memories stay with us forever," he added.

Khamoshi: The Musical

Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his directorial debut with Khamoshi: The Musical in 1996, starring Salman Khan and Manisha Koirala. The film depicted Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas as deaf parents living in Goa, with their daughter Annie played by Manisha Koirala. Despite not performing well commercially, it is often praised for its thematic depth ahead of its time.

Manisha Koirala received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Annie, the caring daughter of a deaf-mute couple, marking it as one of her best performances to date. Khamoshi shares narrative similarities with the 1996 German film 'Beyond Silence,' released over four months later on December 19, 1996.
